Land of the Sky UCC Justice in Action

We strive to live justly by covenanting to build just relationships and dismantle unjust practices and institutions, both in the church and in the world. In solidarity with the history of the United Church of Christ–which was the first historically white denomination to ordain an African-American, the first to ordain a woman, and the first to ordain an openly gay man–we honor the voices and stories of those who live on the margins, as Jesus did. We offer our thanks to God by working for a more loving, just world. We believe that the social expression of love is justice and spiritual growth is inseparable from a commitment to building God’s realm of peace in our corner of the world. By God’s grace, we extend our hands to others through service projects, outreach dollars, and educational events.

The work of justice is both internal and external. We are in need of intention around growth opportunities where we learn and transform our understandings; we are in need of intention around action to be the change for which we are dreaming. The calendar below lists a variety of offerings and we hope you will do your part in living more justly. We also invite you to share offerings you may know about using this form.

Land of the Sky believes in giving from the first fruits of what it receives. 10% of all offerings and financial commitments to the church are given back into the world to a variety of local organizations, specific ministries such as the prison ministry, racial justice and immigrant ministries, and to the wider United Church of Christ. Just living, abundant loving, and humble walking ask that we reserve a portion of our abundance for the world outside. Make a decision about what you have and how much you should share remembering sharing by all means scarcity for none.
